A contractor flooded my house – do I need a lawyer?

I bought my 3-story townhouse 2 years ago. The builder has a 2-year warranty for nail pops and settlement cracks, and while they were in my house repairing those for the warranty, they broke a pipe on the 3rd floor, which flooded the entire house. They immediately hired a remediation contractor, who gutted and dried the house. The remediation contractor has also begun to put up new drywall and paint. So far, they have been very responsive; but nevertheless, I have been living in a hotel for 2 weeks with another week to go. I won’t be paying a dime for anything, and between them and my insurance i’ll have everything back to normal soon, so is there any reason to hire a lawyer. Is there any compensation available for the hassle and the aggrivation/stress? Thanks all!!

    If they’re doing right by you . . . then why hire a lawyer? I would only hire one if bills started coming in from the repairs or hotel.

    While no one can say wether you should or shouldn’t. You must feel it to hire one. Another words – if you feel like you are at a loss…. and they have not rectified the problem.
    If they are doing everything in thei rpower to make the situation right – then I would not waste my time or money on a lawyer. The judge may not actually have any sympathy for you since the company so far is doing the right hting.

    Should they fall short of correcting the situation – then hire a lawayer however at this time… I personally would not

    You don’t get paid for aggravation, stress or hassle. These are not recoverable expenses.

    If they are taking care of every thing there is no reason to get an attorney.

    The companies have been responsive to your situation and are making it right.

    Stop being greedy.

    Congratulations to you! Most people that have contractors don’t come back to fix the problems. You have a responsible one is who is doing everything they possibly can do for you. Why would you hire a lawyer? Don’t be sue happy, everyone makes mistakes and it seems like you are lucky to have someone there to pay everything even if it is their fault. Just be happy and smile :)
